Who requires ETA?
If you are a citizen of Qatar and are travelling to the UK as of November 15, 2023, you must have an ETA. Soon, those entering the UK without a visa will have to obtain an ETA.
If you are travelling to the UK and are a citizen of one of the following countries as of February 22, 2024:
- Bahrain
- Jordan
- Kuwait
- Oman
- Saudi Arabia
- United Arab Emirates
Who will not need an ETA?
If you have one of these, you won’t need an ETA.
- a British or Irish passport
- permission to live, work or study in the UK
- a visa to enter the UK
You won’t require an ETA if you’re legally residing in Ireland and don’t require a visa to visit the UK if you’re coming from either of the following countries:
- Ireland
- Guernsey
- Jersey
- Isle of Man
How to apply apply and obtain Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)?
Procedure to apply:
- You must submit an application using the UK ETA app or online at GOV.UK. People can apply on your behalf.
- Every tourist, including toddlers and infants, must receive a separate ETA.
- Normally, it takes 3 working days to get a decision, but it could happen sooner.
- If we need to perform additional checks, it can take longer than 3 working days.
What is the cost?

How to get it?
- If your application is accepted, you’ll receive an email confirmation.
- We’ll electronically connect your ETA to the passport you used to apply. The same passport must be used for all travel.
What will happen after getting ETA?
- The duration of your ETA is two years. You’ll need a new ETA if your passport expires in less than two years.
- You can use it to travel to the UK repeatedly. To enter the UK, you must still either use an ePassport gate or speak with a Border Force officer if you are eligible.
- But it does not guarantee to the UK.
