Procedure to become a nurse in London
You’ll need to determine which area of nursing interests you the most. You’ll have the chance to make a significant difference in the lives of others in any of these professions to become a nurse in London.
There are four fields of nurse:
- adult nursing
- children’s nursing
- learning disability nursing
- mental health nursing.
It is possible to earn a degree in two different subjects of study at the same time. Degrees in “dual fields” are what they’re called. A qualified nurse will be able to work anywhere in the United Kingdom and even abroad.
What is the Eligibility?
- A minimum of two (often three) A-levels or another level 3 certifications are required.
- additional English, mathematics, and a science GCSE (usually biology or human biology).
- To be eligible to practice as a nurse, a student must attend an NMC-approved school.
Who can apply / Eligibility?
If you do not have the required qualification, you have the below options:
- a Nursing Associate apprenticeship THEN one of the options under ‘level 3 qualification’.
- an Assistant Practitioner qualification than one of the options under ‘level 3 qualification’.
- an access course than one of the options under ‘level 3 qualification’
Have level 3 qualifications (eg A-levels or Access to Higher Education Diploma in nursing, or equivalent, you have the below options:
- a BSc (Hons) Nursing
- a Nursing Degree Apprenticeship
Non-direct entry
- a Nursing Associate apprenticeship than a potentially shortened version of one of the direct entry routes
- an Assistant Practitioner qualification than a potentially shortened version of one of the direct entry routes
If you have a university degree (non-nursing), you have below options:
- an MSc/PG Diploma Nursing
- a BSc (Hons) Nursing
- a Nursing Degree Apprenticeship
In case you are registered with NMC. You have the option,
- a return to practice (nursing) program.
What documents are required?
- A valid passport
- Nursing or midwifery diplomas and registration certificates
- identity card
- Character certificate
- Health certificate
- Necessary knowledge of English.
- The copies which are submitted must be certified.
- Please make sure all your applications forms are completed in full and stamped and signed where appropriate.
How to apply?
- If your training or expertise does not fulfill our requirements for practice in the UK, then you need to apply for an adaptation program or aptitude test.
- We’ll send you an invitation to finish your registration once we’ve verified your credentials and determined that you’ve met all of our registration requirements.
- You will need to pay a registration fee of £120.
- After completing the process, you will receive a PIN.
Is there any entrance exam to apply for a nurse in London?
For those whose credentials don’t reach our standards, we may ask that you take an adaptation program or an aptitude test to make up for any deficiencies.
Adaptation program
- An adaptation program is only open to those who get a letter from us informing them of their eligibility.
- A university that offers an approved adaptation program may then be a viable option. Prior to making a decision, the institution will take into account any gaps in your educational background.
Aptitude test
- To prove your suitability for our registry, you may be eligible to take an aptitude exam to demonstrate your abilities and knowledge.
- The purpose of an aptitude test is to determine whether or not a candidate meets the minimum requirements for admission to our registry. There are four sections of the exam:
- Multiple choice question paper – 1
- Multiple choice question paper – 2
- Short answer question paper – 1
- Practical examination in the form of an Observed Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE)
- An aptitude exam is only open to those who get a letter from us informing them of their eligibility.
- Then apply to a university offering an approved aptitude test. The university will consider the shortfall in your training before making a decision on whether you’re eligible to take the test.
