Smithfield Rotunda Garden is the site that was laid out as a public garden in 1872 with a drinking fountain and bronze figure representing ‘Peace’ by John Birnie Philip added in 1873. The site was originally part of the ‘Smoothfield’ outside the City walls where jousts, executions and markets were held in the 14th and 15th centuries.
