What is the National Key Scheme (NKS)?

The National Key Scheme (NKS), London helps disabled people have independent access to locked public toilets around the country. It provides a “RADAR/NKS” Key to open Accessible/Disabled toilets across the UK. First RADAR locks were fitted in 1981 to help keep accessible toilets free and clean for disabled people.

What is Radar/NKS Key?

A RADAR key, also known as an NKS key, is a blue and silver-coloured key that opens more than 10,000 disabled toilets across the UK. It can be used by some 400 local authorities to allow disabled people access to locked, accessible toilets.

The Royal Association for Disability and Rehabilitation, which is now Disability Rights UK, worked in partnership with Nicholls & Clarke, the inventors of the RADAR lock and together they created the National Key Scheme (NKS).

How much is the Cost of Radar Key?

  • Person who is permanent disable can purchase the NKS key for £5,  by providing the evidence to support this.
  • Alternative costs: £6.00 (With VAT)

Important Notes:

  1.  Genuine Radar NKS Key only will sell to the people who require use of the toilet facilities due to their disability or health condition.
  2. By purchasing a key VAT free, you are declaring yourself eligible to claim VAT relief.
  3. The key must be for your domestic and personal use only.

  5. The key is only available VAT free for individuals, if you are buying on behalf of an organisation such as a care home then you must pay VAT.
  6. For Bulk orders of 9 keys or more, please contact Nicholls & Clarke.
  7. Substitutes are not accepted.

When will the purchased Radar / NKS Key deliver?

  • Physical orders will be delivered within 10 working days.

  • Accessible toilets can be found mostly at London Mainline rail stations.
  • For visitors travelling around the capital by Tube, Transport for London has a comprehensive map that shows which underground stations have toilets and what facilities are available at each one.
  • The City of London’s Community Toilet Scheme (CTS) encourages shops, restaurants and bars to give the public free access to their toilets during trading hours. Find a map of participating businesses on the City of London website.

Do RADAR toilet keys work in abroad?

  • RADAR keys can only be used in the UK.
  • If you’re planning to travel to Europe, you may use an equivalent key called a Euro-key. This is a European toilet key and it costs €25 plus shipping.
